Welcome to the RoleM website: Representations, Oral Language, and Engagement in Mathematics (RoleM).

RoleM has three main focuses:

  1. Teacher professional learning with regard to planning and implementing effective mathematical strategies in conjunction with examining the assessment of children’s growth in mathematics (formative and summative);
  2. A collaborative partnership between teachers, Indigenous Education workers and the community to implement culturally appropriate learning activities;
  3. Parent materials that support the transition from home to school throughout the early years of schooling. Underpinning the project is the development of students' understanding of mathematical representations and the language of mathematics. This supports mathematical learning and assists effective engagement with mathematical texts and national testing regimes.
